Allie has had difficulty hearing for the past two years but recently it's gotten worse. recently, I've found myself having to repeat myself, raise my voice (practically scream when talking to her) and then I noticed she couldn't hear her teacher at her school orientation. That was the trigger for me to find a ENT doctor that would do something to "Fix" her hearing. I have taken her to a few ENT doctors in the past two years; they all contiuned to say she had fluid in her ears but that will go away on it's own in the next few months. I finally got an appointment with Dr. Meier, the same doctor who performed Mason's throat surgery the last two years. He confirmed there was about an inch and half of fluid, He indicated that the fluid he saw was comparable to tar or cement in both ears. He knew that the fluid would not drain on it's own. He recommended she get tubes in her ears and have surgery to remove the thick fluid. He scheduled a surgery the following week. She was a little nervous, which is normal, but she was so brave and did great.
On September 17, 2015 Dr. Meier performed surgery on Allie's ears at the Riverton Primary Children's Hospital. It was a quick 15 minute surgery. She was quite nauseous from the anesthesia when she came out. She had a difficult time holding down fluids. She kept throwing up for the first hour after surgery. Once, they gave her some zofran, she seemed like her happy, chippy self.
They took great care of Allie. The nurses brought her a fabric doll to color on and gave her a cute minion pillow after surgery.
She said she notices a big difference and is happy that she can hear clearly now!
