Hike to Hidden Falls

On Friday, July 8th, I took the kids by myself for a little adventure up in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It's amazing how many trails and waterfalls exist here in Utah. We have had so much fun exploring some of those trails, and my kids have gained determination, strength and confidence by hiking these fun trails. I have grown to love being outdoors, and finding new adventures to take my kids and family on.

One of things on our summer bucket list is Hidden Falls. This  "hike is so short, it probably isn't even a hike, just a view from beyond the road. It is located at the top of the S curve up big cottonwood canyon. Just a few yards in from the road, after having walked along a stream you come to a dead end where a waterfall flows over the rocks. I recommend that you park at the higher parking lot (not mill b trail-head) and then you'll walk across the highway to the opposite side of the parking lot, and there you will see a trail..follow that trail. stay on the trail as it goes behind the mountain/boulder..note: there are stairs to your right..DO NOT GO THAT WAY! We made that mistake and had to find ourselves sliding back down that step mountain.

I had to balance miss Naomi over the river to get right up close to the falls...it made it quite challenging but SUPER FUN!

There is a old and abandoned mine as you walk up to the hidden falls. The kids thought was pretty awesome. It was really wet and muddy so we didn't go that far into it. There are huge mountains that surround the falls, and you may run into rock climbers, like we did this morning. Allie loved climbing to the top of some of the large mountains and I can say it makes me nervous every time, but I know I need to allow her to adventure off to explore at times as well. Allie and Mason were determined to cross over a large log and on the other sided they found a fairy house that someone had made and it was right in the middle of a tree stump. Allie and Mason played around with that fairy garden for quite sometime.

On our drive home from the hike, Allie and Mason said they wanted to make their own fairy garden and take it up to the woods for others to find. 

During that conversation I told them about a fairy forest that I had heard about online, and when got home from our hike we googled the directions and decided we would go and try to find that fairy forest up mirror lake highway that next day!

They spent the rest of the afternoon painting and designing their own fairy garden....
